After years of having When Stars Burn Out in the world, I'm finally making one of my biggest dreams come true: I'm releasing my book in hardcover! This is something I've avoided doing for a while, mainly because IngramSpark has a relatively bad reputation for being a pain in the ass to work with — but if it's the only way to release my stories in hardcover, then I'm willing to grapple with its finickiness.
My goal is to have this ready by the holidays. That way, I'll have a great reason to re-promote When Stars Burn Out a couple months prior to A Dark Sky Opens going up for preorder. So much of this (the hardcover copies, as well as the preorder campaign) is entirely new to me, and frankly, it's quite intimidating. But — I think it'll be fun! And if nothing else, an excellent experience. How many of you would like to hear more about these endeavors? Perhaps I'll record a few podcast episodes on the process, or even blog about them here (sometimes it's easier to follow a written format when approaching a step-by-step process). Definitely let me know if you're interested!
For now, I'm working with my cover designer to put together a dust jacket. The coolest part about this is that MY FACE will be on the cover, as well as my bio! I'm so grateful to be an indie author who gets to actively participate in every stage of the publication process. I have said it once, and I'll say it again: My decision to become an indie author was easily THE BEST decision I've ever made in my entire life! I'm really going to push myself to try new things with A Dark Sky Opens's publication — like hiring a voice actor to put together an audiobook version of both books, and perhaps even directing and producing another book trailer! :) We'll see. All I know is that for now, I'm optimistic and excited. Life's good!
